Our History
Audlem Theatre Company has long been part of the creative heartbeat of our village - uniting people of all ages through laughter, music, and storytelling. What began as a simple idea to bring the community together through performance has grown into a thriving company that continues to light up the stage year after year.
Early Beginnings - Pre-1995
Audlem has a proud tradition of local theatre, with village pantomimes and performances delighting audiences for generations. For a time, productions paused but the spirit of community theatre never truly faded.
The Revival – 1995
After a 20-year hiatus, Dot & Jim Timmis and George Katterloher revived the village pantomime by staging
“Aladdin and His Magic Lamp.”
Originally intended as a one-off production, the show’s success reignited Audlem’s love for the stage and more than 30 years later, the curtain is still rising on our productions, stronger than ever.
The 5As Era – 1997 to 2019
From 1997, the group became officially known as the Audlem All Ages Acting and Performing Arts Company affectionately shortened to the Audlem 5As.
This name reflected the group’s inclusive ethos and focus on giving opportunities to performers of all ages, especially young people discovering their love for theatre.
A New Chapter – 2019
In 2019, the group rebranded as Audlem Theatre Company a fresh identity for a company with the same long-standing purpose: to provide opportunities for the people of Audlem to participate in theatre, on stage and off.
Expanding Horizons - 2000s to Present
While our flagship annual pantomime remains a beloved village tradition, ATC’s creative reach has grown far beyond.
We’ve staged a wide range of plays, many written by our own members and even produced short films.
In recent years, our 24-Hour Musical challenge has become a highlight of the local calendar, showcasing teamwork, talent, and a good dose of madness!
Lights, Camera, Audlem!
We’ve also loved getting involved in wider village events and even made a national TV appearance when Dom Littlewood visited Audlem to explore whether the village could “become Welsh” for free prescriptions!
Today and Beyond
Today, Audlem Theatre Company continues to thrive thanks to the dedication, energy, and creativity of our members and supporters.
Whether you want to perform, help backstage, or simply enjoy a great show, there’s a place for you in our theatre family.
We’re proud to be part of Audlem’s creative story and we can’t wait to welcome you to our next production.
